The SCSI Hammer hard drive sanitizer
Compact and easy-to-use, the SCSI Hammer is a one-step device that purges individual hard drives or up to 30 hard drives in a shelf array at speeds up to 150 GB per minute. The device can be used as a standalone unit with the onboard LCD user interface or connected to a host PC via USB. Optional battery-powered Bluetooth printer allows an audit printout to be generated onsite. A certificate can also be produced in html format, providing the owner of the data results of the erasure operation.

Basic Description

  • Securely erases all data on up to 30 SCSI hard drives simultaneously, in a single operation.
  • Drives may be re-deployed immediately.
  • Erases complete disk array shelves in a single operation.
  • Erases data from replaced bad sectors.
  • 50 and 68 pin SCSI interfaces built in.
  • Hard drives may be reused - promoting better eco-stewardship.
  • Complies with NIST 800-88, HIPAA, SoX, GLBA and others.
  • Verifies data has been erased and generates a stored or printed audit trail.
  • Connects to a PC for additional CPR Toolbox (included) features.
  • Other tools include:
    o detailed drive information
    o low level sector viewing
    o operation logging
    o audit trail reporting
SCSI Hammer Destroys the Data,
Not the Harddrive

SCSI Hammer implements the SCSI Security Erasure Write technique to completely purge all data, including remapped bad sectors, from SCSI hard drives. Unlike degaussing, the SCSI Hammer destroys data, not hardware, allowing for redeployment of drives without the costs associated with hardware replacement.

Use SCSI Hammer in a Range of Configurations
  • Direct Connect: Purges up to four hard drives at once.
  • Disk Array: Erases a complete shelf, up to 30 hard drives, without removing drives from the enclosure.
  • PC Connect for enhanced CPR Tools functionality: Proprietary CPR Tools software suite (included) provides a full featured control panel, giving the technician complete control of the operation from Windows XP and Vista.
  • NIST Ranks Firmware-based Secure Erase at the Highest Security LEvel For Data Sanitization Methods that Don't Require Physical Destruction

As the emphasis on data security grows, more and more companies are developing hard drive decommissioning protocols than emphasize both security and environmental responsibility. The SCSI Hammer securely and quickly purges data from up to 30 SCSI hard drives without destroying the drives.

Compare SCSI Hammer / Secure Erase with Software Overwrite Methods.
    • With processing speeds up to 4Gb minute, the Hammer blows away software overwrite products, which may take hours or days.
    • Software overwrites consume significantly more energy, with corresponding electric bills. Use the energy use calculator to compare.
    • The Hammer is a portable, hand-held device that can be deployed anywhere, while software overwriting requires a PC and software installation.
    • Not usable if the hard drive is damaged or is not writeable.
    • Not all overwriting tools are able to erase data on the locked/hidden sectors thus compromising data security.
    • Most overwriting tools do not provide detailed reporting of the erasure process therefore providing no audit trail.
Compare SCSI Hammer / Secure Erase with Degaussing.
    • The SCSI Hammer is a green solution that allows the hard drive to be redeployed or recycled, while degaussing renders the drive permanently unusable.
    • While the Hammer offers several means of verification and certification, degaussing can't provide verification of the destruction process as required for regulatory compliance.
    • Degaussing machines are large, costly and may damage nearby equipment; the Hammer is hand-held, portable and reasonably priced.
    • Degaussing usually involves a third-party vendor and may compromise care, custody and control protcol; the Hammer is a portable device that can generate a certification of destruction on-site.
