Included are some benefits to purchasing Recertified Media, however, an understanding of what Recertified, Remanufactured and Reconditioned Magnetic Tape is, and where it comes from may provide a better understanding of why it is worthwhile to purchase Recertified Media. Please understand that this information concerning how Peripherals recertifies media is a Peripheral Manufacturing, Inc. process, and may or may not be true of any other firm in the same or like business.
 
Peripheral Manufacturing purchases magnetic media, computer tape, and tape cartridges like DLT III, DLT IV, 3480, 3490, 3570, 3590, diskette etc. from various resellers of systems and directly from end users that are upgrading or getting rid of systems that are no longer needed. It is not the case that the Media is bad, since most libraries we purchase are in use and have just been converted to newer media. So the Magnetic Tape is really no better or worse than the tape in your own library; it's just located in a different place.
 
When used Magnetic Tape arrives at Peripherals it is counted and erased. Most firms want a confidentiality agreement, a certificate of degauss and a count of the tape, which we provide. Peripherals has numerous Degaussers to erase every type of tape manufactured, past and present. The tape then goes to an inspection station to check for physical damage. Computer tape or tape cartridges are removed if any damage is detected.
 
Tape passing physical inspection is cleaned and tested to insure all tape meets and or exceeds ANSI* specifications. Peripherals standards are higher because we place a lifetime warranty on all Recertified product.
 
Peripherals has a wide variety of equipment to test, degauss, remanufacture and recondition all DLT, SuperDLT, 3480, 3490, 3590, 3570 (Magstar), floppy disks (high density, double density), computer tape, round reel tape (9 track tape), LTO, 4mm, 8mm (DDS and AIT), Travan, SLR-1, SLR-2, DC9100, DC9120, DC6150, DC6525, TK50, TK70, etc.
